Anything is possible with the support of others, help us grow our museum and community.

As the fiscal year draws to an to end for the Museum of Teaching and Learning, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude for your enthusiasm and assistance. Thank you! Your many gifts of funding and donated time help our charitable nonprofit to succeed. MOTAL enacts its mission, We educate people about education, through multiple programs— sharing our collections of artifacts, weekly email-blast articles and stories, social media posts, special events, and the creation and production of traveling exhibitions. MOTAL is on the move!

Not only do we look to the past for insights, but we seek relevance in a world of modern change. We inform, inspire, and entertain guests of all ages, especially ages 9 to 109!

Here are a few reflections and updates as we end 2022 and begin the 2023 fiscal year.

We are honored to welcome aboard a wonderful new member to our board of directors, Pat Casey, long-time docent expert. The esteemed Debbie Schaefer-Jacobs, curator at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, is coming on as our board advisor, as well. Lastly, we’d like to welcome Sheryl “Max” Eastman and Oscar Guerrero, two students from Claremont Graduate University who will serve as our Doll Scholars this summer.

MOTAL had quite an eventful year with two thoughtful fundraising campaigns during the December holiday season and again at the end of the fiscal year. Donations make possible exhibitions such as Two Roads, One Journey, currently on view at Santiago Canyon College through August 4, 2023. Our next exhibition, A Class Action, will be on view at the Coast Community College District headquarters from September 1, 2023 through November. We are also thrilled for our upcoming exhibition in 2024, Your Baby’s Amazing Brain, which will be a traveling exhibition made possible by the generous trailer donation from Dave Ward, North American Trailer, LLC. This exhibition is a collaboration with the talented design company, Mad Systems, and we are pleased to work alongside Maris Ensing, Creative Technology Consultant, and Anthony Zorilla, Creative and Sales Director.

We have plenty of exciting projects coming up as well, including a new film about MOTAL by Paul DeBaets, a Celeb Salon fundraising dinner this summer, and new articles and stories to add to our growing collection on our website and distributed by email blast—one each week.

There are unlimited opportunities for you to connect with our organization, particularly as we look for sponsors for our mobile exhibition as it travels throughout Southern California, engaging young parents, caregivers, and the public. We are also on the search for THREE future board members to provide diversity, inspiration, experience and sustenance towards our organization.

Sending many thanks your way, for MOTAL’s individual donors provide our vast majority of funding.
